Board Members of the Pacific Palisades Democratic Club were elected as delegates to the 41st Assembly District on January 10.
Susan Haskell, Maureen Cruise and Genevieve Cruise will join a 12 member coalition as delegates to the California Democratic Party State Central Committee.
The other nine delegates elected were Julie Levine, Steven G. Polard, Linda Sutton, Aparna Sridhar, Jonathan Troen, Ben Allen, Rick Brown, Ted Vaill and Jay Kapitz. Maureen Cruise also won a seat on the Executive Board of the 41st AD.
The "Fighting 41st," as it is known covers Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Encino, Hidden Hills, Malibu, Oak Park, Oxnard, Pacific Palisades, Port Hueneme, Santa Monica, Tarzana, Topanga, Westlake Village and Woodland Hills.
Marcy Winograd, the outgoing executive board representative of the 41st AD, convened the election at the Topanga Community House. State Senator Fran Pavely (D) Agoura Hills and Assembly Member Julia Brownley attended the morning registration session prior to voting. Brownley, who represents the 41st in Sacramento, addressed the audience of about 200 with an impassioned plea for Democrats to take action on the budget crisis by calling and e-mailing their representatives.
"We need to throw shoes at the governor," she said. "We need to get his attention to get California's share of Obama's economic stimulus package."
Brownley said the state could be bankrupt by February or March unless it receives about $900 million in federal aid. State Assembly member, Julia Brownley called on all Democrats to take action on the budget crisis by contacting their representatives.
"The Democrats must present a package to get out of this economic crisis," she said. "The governor's economic recovery plan has nothing to do with balancing the budget. We have to come to a solution, this is not an option."
Every two years registered Democrats may vote within their assembly District (AD) for the 12 people (6 men and 6 women) to represent their AD at the annual California State Conventions. These delegates will at the minimum vote on the adoption of resolutions, party platform and endorsements by the state party organization. The term is for two years.
